What exactly is Ayurveda?

What are the Doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha)?

The doshas are the three fundamental energies or bio-principles that govern all physiological and psychological functions in the body. Vata (Air + Ether) governs movement, Pitta (Fire + Water) governs metabolism and transformation, and Kapha (Earth + Water) governs structure and lubrication. Everyone has all three, but in unique proportions, determining their Ayurvedic constitution (Prakriti).
